George John Mitchell Jr. is an American politician, diplomat, and lawyer. In his role as Special Envoy for Northern Ireland, Mitchell was a primary architect of the Good Friday Agreement which ushered in a new era of relative peace in Northern Ireland and effectively ended the troubles.
